In the segment of Video Imaging Equipment comes all those devices that are used for capturing, processing, displaying and storing video signals in either analog or digital format. This family of engineering and scientific industry covers all those instruments that use video technology to record, display, or read data, or are powered by imaging technologies such as lasers and infrared scanners. They enjoy a wide application and is one of the most conventional technology to be enveloping the world.

Types of Video Imaging Equipment

Some of the classifications available in the video imaging equipment industry has been discussed below -

Bar Code Devices – These are electronic devices that are used for reading printed bar codes. These are optical machine-readable representation of data that are represents data in the widths (lines) and the spacings of parallel line. They consist of a light source, a lens and a light sensor that translates optical impulses into electrical ones.

Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) – These are one of the most important component of the video imaging industry. These install video cameras to transmit a signal to a specific place, on a limited set of monitors. CCTV is often used for surveillance in areas that may need monitoring such as banks, casinos, airports, military installations, and convenience stores.

Image Sensors – Devices that record images including charge coupled devices (CCD) and CMOS image sensors are commonly known as Image sensors. They convert an optical image to an electric signal and is used widely in digital cameras and other imaging devices. An image sensor is typically a charge coupled device (CCD) or a complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) that incorporates active-pixel sensor.

Video Cameras Accessories – All those equipment like cameras, lenses, controllers, switchers, and other related equipment for image capturing and processing are known as video camera accessories. They are known to have varied industry applications and are different from the consumer market camcorders and lenses as they are structured and designed to survive in rigorous factory or industrial environments.

Video Equipment – Video Equipment in video imaging industry comprise all those those devices used to process or display captured video data. Some some the examples digital video recorders that are used to transform the video data into digital output, monitors and multiplexers to handle a number of signals at one time and switches to keep the cameras in control.

Industry Growth

In UK, the video imaging equipment industry is showing steadfast increase in terms of profit. The US manufacturers and suppliers of Video imaging equipment on the other hand too are enjoying the fruits of profit. With annual sales shooting up to $96.2 billion, the US markets for video imaging is getting stronger with each passing day. It is being estimated that by the end of this year, the sales of all the video imaging equipments will grow to reach about $1.3 billion. The most popular among the video equipment is the video cameras and CCTV and alone their profit is estimated to grow at a rapid rate of 13% per annum.

Applications

The video imaging equipment industry is the fastest growing industry in the global market. The technological advancements in almost every field has aided this growth. Thus, the scope of video imaging which was earlier confined to homes and personal uses, have found various office purposes as well. Today, they are employed to inspect, measure or survey either industrial processing systems, or specific units. While bar codes are used for calculative purposes, CCTV cameras are into the inspection and surveillance. Image sensors are widely used in digital cameras and other security purposes. Moreover, their potential is also being recognized for medical purposes for increasing productivity and lowering obsolescence risks.

Major Market Players

The major players in the video equipment category are North America and Europe. CCTV alone comprise of 85% of the markets in these countries. However, the manufacturers as well as dealers are presuming that in the future, major demand is going to come from Asia Pacific regions. The leaders in this segment as per hierarchy are – North America, Europe, Asia- pacific, US, Canada, Mexico, UK, Germany, Russia, France, Japan, Hong Kong, Philippines, China, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, Indonesia, Taiwan, India, Australia and other countries.

Video Imaging Equipment Publications

EURASIP Journal on Image and Video Processing – The EURASIP (European Association for Signal Processing) journal is intended for researchers from both academia and industry who have created a niche for themselves in multidisciplinary field of image and video processing. This journal covers all theoretical and practical aspects of the domain, from basic research to application development and also provides variety of technical article related to the video imaging industry.

The Journal of Electronic Imaging – Co published by the The Society for Imaging Science and Technology (IS&T) and SPIE, this journal publishes papers in all technology areas that make up the field of electronic imaging and are normally considered in the design, engineering, and application of an electronic imaging system. Some of the areas covered by them are Image visualization, Image processing and electronic imaging.

Video Imaging Equipment Association

Video and Electronics Standards Association - Established in the year 1989 in order to support industry wide interface standards designed for the PC, workstation, and other computing environments, VESA is a non profit corporation led by a Board of Directors, which represents a voting membership of more than 165 corporate members worldwide. Besides providing support to set industry standards for PC, workstation, and consumer electronics industries this organization maintains a forum to develop, promote and support open standards for the display industry.

International Imaging Industry Association – Representing nearly all leading and emerging imaging companies, International Imaging Industry Association is a non profit and largest imaging industry group worldwide. It includes member companies from around the world are dedicated to developing and promoting the adoption of open industry standards, addressing environmental issues and providing a voice for the industry that will ultimately benefit all users. I3A is the product of the merger of the Digital Imaging Group (DIG) and the Photographic and Imaging Manufacturers Association (PIMA), with almost 60 years of combined imaging industry leadership.

Specialty Graphic Imaging Association – SGIA is the only international association for specialty imaging. The main aim of this organization is to provide imaging professionals with the tools and information that is needed to make the best possible business decisions. Connecting to a global community, members help each other and the industry by sharing ideas, insights, and innovations. They conduct various exhibitions and conferences to develop relationships that build better business.
